About Us
You may come as a stranger to us; yet you are known to our Lord, Jesus Christ,
and in His name we bid you welcome; praying that you find peace, inspiration and our friendship in this, His house.
A Catholic school education is the starting point on the path to a lifetime of accomplishment for your child. It is a sound investment in a valuable education, and an education in values. The curriculum, programs and extracurricular activities in Catholic schools help broaden a student's interests, build confidence, and teach self-discipline.
St. John Catholic School is proud to provide children and parents the tools they need to be successful and enriched in the spirit of Christ.
Top 10 reasons you should send your child to St. John Catholic School
— Straight from the minds and hearts of our wonderful students...
- #10. Julia in 7th grade writes, “I love the welcoming smiles that greet me as I walk through the gate.”
- # 9. “Friends are another important thing at St. John’s. I have made lots of friends over the year and a half I have been here. Friends are like buddies or pals like Christian. They’re people you want to hang out with”, says Joel in 5th grade
- #8. Fallon in 7th writes, “There are fewer students here than at public schools, but because of that we get a lot of personal attention.”
- #7. “Here at St. John’s the atmosphere is much safer”, says Sophia in 4th grade.
- #6. Our newest student, Elijah in 2nd grade says, “I like St. John because there are a lot of nice people. So, I think that I want to stay here.”
- #5. “All of the teachers really love their jobs, the students they teach, and what they teach. This is why I love St. John Catholic School”, says Anthony in the 8th grade.
- #4. Noah in 4th grade said, “I like St. John Catholic School because there are a lot of books to read”, and “There is a beach about 50 steps away from our school!”
- #3. In first grade Cody writes, “I enjoy the whole school. I feel happy here and I make good choices.”
- #2. “When I think of St. John’s, I think of discipline, integrity, and of course, all the great teachers we have. I have learned so much from them. I am so grateful to have such great teachers and such a great principal as I do.” Written by Falyn in 6th grade.
- And finally the top reason for sending your child to St. John School comes from Sara in 6th and Veronica in 4th:
#1. “I like this school because I get the opportunities to learn about God. In most public schools they don’t even talk about God.” Finally and most importantly, “I learned how to love God with all my heart, mind and soul. Thanks to Mrs. Kearns I have developed a life-long relationship with God. When I have children, St. John’s is my first choice.”
Educating the Total Child
St. John Catholic School is dedicated to the development of each student's academic excellence, physical well being, moral strength and spiritual convictions in a Christian atmosphere. Students will acquire the essential knowledge to love and serve God in every aspect of earthly life: the family, the community and the Church. We strive to educate hearts and minds through regular opportunities for prayer, worship, service, religious education, and value formation.
Visual Arts - Our students learn about art from around the world, the styles of the great masters throughout history and how to apply techniques. Students work in various mediums including paper mache’, sculpture, and painting. Select works of art are displayed on campus throughout the school year and at the Visual Arts Center of Northwest Florida. The students best art work is presented at the school’s arts festival in the spring.
Music - Students are immersed in music. Children perform twice a year at the Christmas Music Program and School Spring Arts Festival.
Sports - Through the generosity of parent volunteers students are given the opportunity to participate in extracurricular sports including basketball, soccer, volleyball, and flag football.
Our History
St. John Catholic School has been providing a solid academic and spiritual foundation which has created a pathway for many of our students to be accepted into the honors programs in high schools, earn college scholarships and enter the world rooted in God’s Holy Word and Jesus Christ’s teachings thanks to the inspiration and dedication of a handful of Catholic Nuns.
On September 15,1958 five Catholic Sisters of the Order of Resurrection opened the doors of the first Catholic School in Bay County. It remains located today in a quiet residential neighborhood two blocks from beautiful St. Andrew Bay. The Sisters have retired and passed on but left a legacy rich in Roman Catholic teaching and academic excellence for our degreed and state certified Teachers to build upon and help each child reach his or her full potential in this new Millennium. A 50th Anniversary Celebration was held on September 15, 2008.
Today St. John has nearly 120 students enrolled in grades K3 - 8. Small classroom sizes provide safe learning environments. Our campus offers a new state of the art library and computer room, science lab, art room, and music room. The entire campus is networked and equipped with computers. We are currently raising funds to construct a new gymnasium.
Community Service
Just as the founders of St. John Catholic School served God and the community, our students, faculty, and families share their gifts of time, talent and treasure in countless ways. The tradition of community service continues by reaching out and providing clothes, food, toys, money and time to the less fortunate in Bay County, victims of natural disasters, the hungry, the elderly, children of war torn countries, and our military personnel serving around the world.
