Students "draw" attention to art!
Panama City, November 15 - An artistic group of St. John School students helped "draw" attention, literally, to the importance of art in schools. The Visual Arts Center of Northwest Florida hosted Madonnar 2008, the third annual Emerald Coast Street Art Festival at Pier Park on Panama City beach November 15th. 8th grade artists, Lynn Higby, Andrea Ramirez, and Christopher Walters turned the sidewalks into a bright and colorful canvas. With chalk in hand they expressed their talent and school pride by recreating their school's 50th Anniversary Commerative logo. St. John students joined about a dozen other artists to help the Visual Arts Center's mission, to raise funds for the art museum and expose families to the importance of art in the schools, something being removed from curriculumns in many public schools. Fortunately, St. John Catholic School's art program continues to thrive under the direction of Mrs. Denize Kearns and is recognized by the Bay County Community each year at the Best of Bay's Art Exhibit. The program recieves financial contributions each year through the PTO's Annual Spring Arts Festival.
St. John Saints...
In honor of All Saints Day, 4th grade religion teacher, Mrs. Kearns, asked the fourth grade students to pick a saint that they would like to learn more about and to exemplify. On Thursday, October 30, several students dressed up as saints and delivered oral reports to their classmates. The children thoroughly enjoyed the assignment and promised to behave in a saint-like manner.
